In The Twilight Zone At The School Board Sunday, June 13, 2021 I have a friend who used to say, “I have been to two World’s Fairs and a hog calling contest and I have never seen the beat.” That is exactly the feeling I had after last month’s four-hour marathon School Board meeting. I have been attending school board meetings for the last 20 years and I have never seen another one quite like it. This meeting had it all. For the first time in an open meeting, I heard a cuss word from a school board member, the sheriff disrespected, and parents being chastised for not having “anything else to do” because they were attending a meeting to object to their child wearing a face mask. I was told if I had a problem with what a board member was saying, I could leave and I was told by two board members I was just trying to score “political points” for speaking out against mask mandates for students.
