GSG Architecture, formerly Malone Belton Abel PC, will design the project to repair the Highland Park Elementary School wall and roof repair.
The firm was approved for the project in a meeting earlier this month. Craig Dougherty, who’s superintendent of Sheridan County School District 2, which owns the school, said the roof is 15 years old and has problems.
Dougherty said the wall repair will be minimal. He said the major problem is the roof and that, in fact, is what’s causing some of the damage to the wall.
Cost for design is around $120,000, but a memo presented to district trustees noted that the exact amount of the contract will be defined at a later date, after the full scope of the project is determined.

According to information received by Sheridan County School District 2, school nurses will be among the first to be vaccinated when the new COVID-19 vaccine becomes available.
District 2 Superintendent Craig Doughery provided the information as part of an update to the district’s trustees at their meeting this month. He said no information has been provided on when the vaccine will become available, but school nurses will be in Group One.
Also unavailable at this time, Dougherty said, is a timeline for when students would be vaccinated. He said he doesn’t anticipate that happening until late next spring, or possibly not even then.

Washakie County School District #1 in Worland is having a substitute shortage. But that s nothing new. It s always an issue. Most of the time we do pretty well, this year, the problems have been exacerbated primarily because we re having more staff out for longer periods of time due to quarantines, said Jack Stott, the district s business manager.
He said no role is spared. We re scrambling for every category of employee.
While he said no schools in Washakie #1 have had to close this year because of COVID-19 outbreaks, a lot of staff like teachers, bus drivers, and cooks are having to take time away from work because of positive COVID-19 cases or quarantines. As of December 8, fifteen school district staff members were out.
