Drunk jailed after biting new girlfriend and stamping on her head

Kevin Wolton has been jailed for 16 months A DRUNKEN lout who bit and stamped on his new girlfriend has been jailed – after a judge pulled stumps on the man’s deferred sentence. Kevin Wolton had not long been released from prison when he struck up a relationship with the woman as they stayed in the same bed and breakfast in April last year. Their five-day relationship ended on April 29 after Wolton subjected his new partner to a prolonged assault in which he stamped on her head and bit her ankle. Last November, Judge Peter Crabtree deferred sentence for six months after hearing that the 38-year-old defendant was remorseful, had beaten an alcohol addiction while on remand and was committed to changing his ways.

Marie resident who has had past dealings with police recently for drugs and weapons offenses was arrested at a hospital in Smooth Rock Falls with causing a disturbance and breaching his conditions of release. The incident occurred on Sunday morning Members of the James Bay setachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for assistance at 8:42 a.m. that day regarding a “combative patient” at the Smooth Rock Falls Hospital. Police attended and located the person in the emergency department.

Councillor praises contractor for sponsoring festive house competition in Wrexham

COUNTY Councillor Paul Rogers has thanked a contractor working in the community for sponsoring a competition for the Most Festive House. The competition which was held in the run up to Christmas was arranged by Councillor Rogers to spread some extra festive cheer. The event was sponsored by Wrexham Council Housing Contractor Novus Solutions who recently carried out re-roofing works to council homes on Bryn Gwenfro in Tanyfron. The competition which was shared on social media received a positive response with festive hampers awarded to winning properties in Brymbo and Tanyfron. Commenting on the event Councillor Paul Rogers said: The last 12 months have been particularly tough for many in our community and I wanted to encourage residents to get involved and give some recognition for their community spirit.

Round Rock library reminds community of service changes, guidelines

Austin American-Statesman Citing an increase in visitors not wearing masks, Round Rock Public Library Director Michelle Cervantes this week reminded patrons that they must wear face coverings inside the library. We have had occasions where folks don t want to wear their mask, or they only cover their mouth but not their nose, Cervantes said. We ask that people must wear a mask and have them be worn properly when inside our building.   An ordinance passed unanimously by the City Council on June 29 requires those ages 10 and older to wear face coverings in public places when social distancing is not possible. It also requires businesses to display a notice of the requirement.

Many years ago, I was block walking in the Stone Oak subdivision in Northwest Round Rock. At the time, I was living in Southeast Round Rock. One resident told me, “It seems like you live so far from where I live – why can’t we have a downtown where we can meet and gather?” Even as our city grows, downtown serves as a reminder of what makes Round Rock unique. Whether it’s meeting friends over a relaxed meal, shopping or doing business with local entrepreneurs or making memories with our families, downtown represents so many ways that we can stay connected as a community.
