Offshore wind farm developers and the Ministry of Economic Affairs yesterday expressed hope that the establishment of a new industry group would facilitate communication between the fledgling industry and the government.
The launch of the Taiwan Offshore Wind Industry Association (TOWIA), which comprises eight major offshore wind farm developers with projects in Taiwan, comes just weeks ahead of a highly anticipated announcement of the “rules of the game” for the third phase of the nation’s wind farm development plan, dubbed “zonal development.”

Taipei, March 10 (CNA) An alliance of eight major offshore wind farm companies was established in Taiwan on Wednesday to help develop the industry, as the country advances its plans to increase offshore wind power.
One of the main aims of the Taiwan Offshore Wind Industry Association (TOWIA) is to facilitate green energy discussions among government officials, private companies and the public, said Marina Hsu (許乃文), chairwoman of the new association.
In the long term, TOWIA said, it hopes to help build sustainable wind power supply chains in Taiwan by forging deeper cooperation between industry and academia.
Four-year plan aims to cultivate digital talent

The National Development Council (NDC) on Monday unveiled a four-year plan focusing on several goals, including nurturing a digital talent pool.
Other goals would involve improving the nation’s bilingual education and expanding the efforts to hire international talent, the council said.
The measures would be aimed at promoting Taiwan’s competitiveness and ensuring that it plays a critical role in the dynamic restructuring of the global supply chain, it said.
Lin Chih-mei, director of the National Development Council’s Department of Human Resource Development, is pictured in Taipei on July 25, 2017. Lin on Monday said the council would push for amendments to the Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals to make it easier for foreign talent to work in Taiwan.
