Biden’s confused China policy Michael Sobolik, writing for The Hill, identifies a key problem with Joe Biden’s China policy. That policy is an incoherent mishmash.
Nearly every president from Nixon on has tried to engage and to some degree appease China. Donald Trump chose a different course. He confronted China.
Biden, by contrast, is straddling these two courses. Sobolik writes:
On the one hand, the president has insisted that the United States will compete with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) when necessary, and has described that competition in stark terms: democracy versus authoritarianism. On the other, Biden has identified climate change as “the number one issue facing humanity” one that demands a global response from the world’s leading polluters, including Beijing.

× PLANS worth £300,000 to expand Manvers Lake’s boathouse have been sent to the council’s planning board.
With almost 2,000 members, Manvers Waterfront Boat Club is ‘bursting at the seams’ and the lake’s charity - alongside local residents - have announced that they are planning to provide additional space at the boathouse.
The application seeks an additional ground floor bay, and the £300,000 scheme also includes the conversion of space above the boat store into a multi-sport club room and storage.
Members have been backed by a number of organisations, including South Yorkshire Sport and Sport England, and are able to submit the application after more than £100,000 in donations from the public, private an other charities.
