New Delhi, April 10 : India s top javelin thrower and Tokyo Olympic Games medal hopeful, Neeraj Chopra, on Saturday gave the credit for his string of good performances recently to the support given by the Sports Ministry s Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS).
The Asian Games and Commonwealth Games gold medallist said that without the support of the TOPS programme, it would have been difficult for athletes to return to competition in the pandemic-hit times.
Chopra, who will be leaving for a training stint in Turkey later this month along with compatriot Shivpal Singh, posted a video on the Sports Authority of India s (SAI) Twitter handle, saying that the support from SAI and TOPS were the main reason why Indian sportspersons were doing well on the international stage.

India’s top track and field athletes, including javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and sprinter Hima Das will embark on a training-cum-competition tour of Turkey later this month, the national federation said on Tuesday.
Olympic-bound Indian steeplechaser Avinash Sable is also set to train in Uganda from April 10 to July 20 after getting a go ahead from the Sports Ministry, which approved a proposal sent by the Athletics Federation of India.

This year, the festival of Holi brought to the fore the rift in the Yadav clan between Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and his estranged uncle, Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL) head Shivpal Singh Yadav. On March 29, Shivpal decided to hold his Holi celebrations a mere 100 metres away from clan patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav’s family residence in Saifai village in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district, where the rest of the family had gathered to celebrate the festival.
