STILLWATER For the first time this century, the Cowgirls are headed to consecutive Women’s College World Series.
Oklahoma State beat Texas 2-0 on Sunday in Game 3 of the teams’ Super Regional in Cowgirl Stadium, and the Cowgirls did so off another stellar outing from their Ace.
Carrie Eberle threw her sixth seven-inning shutout of the year as she allowed four hits, walked one and struck out three. After spending the first three seasons of her career at Virginia Tech, Eberle, an All-American and Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, is headed to her first Women’s College World Series.
“It’s really indescribable,” Eberle said. “To be able to just have that experience with this team, it’s gonna be amazing. This is what I came here to do. This has been our goal all year long. We’re not anywhere close to done.”
The teams: No. 1 Oklahoma vs. No. 16 Washington
What to watch for: The Sooners are one of the most explosive, dangerous offenses in the country. They rank No. 1 in the country in home runs, slugging, batting average and more. They showed it this past weekend with 24 runs scored against Wichita State and production from their entire lineup. They hit six home runs in the regional finals. Nicole Mendes had a seven-RBI performance on Friday, and freshman Tiare Jennings has been huge. You cannot stop this offense.
But they are going up against Washington, one of the best defenses in the country, Pac-12 defensive player of the year Sis Bates and Gabbie Plain, who ranks in the top three in the country in strikeouts. This is now a different story here than what OU faced in the regionals. The Huskies took down Michigan twice to win the regional final and had an explosive fourth inning offensively in game seven with seven runs scored in one inning.

St. Francis started the NCAA Softball Tournament Friday evening. This is the Red Flash’s 4th consecutive appearance in the Tournament. They are 1-6 all time in Postseason games and they were looking to add to the Win column and score an big upset against the host in Texas. But it was not meant to be as the Longhorns dominated from start to finish defeating the Red Flash 12-0 in just 3 Innings. Grace Vesco surrendered all 12 runs off of 9 hits. Only 5 of the 12 runs were earned in the process. Texas Pitcher Shea O’Leary shutdown the Red Flash giving up just 1 hit and striking out 2.
