Dumka: BJP’s leader of legislative party Babulal Marandi on Saturday came down heavily on JMM and its allies – Congress and RJD - for their “dynasty politics” while addressing a series of public meetings at Devipur block in Madhupur ahead of the bypoll on April 17. “At a time when dynasty politics is being uprooted elsewhere in the country – as seen during the last few Lok Sabha elections where Congress was shown the door by the electorate and during the assembly poll in Bihar where RJD was defeated – it is still very much active in Jharkhand with JMM being its torch-bearer,” Marandi said while addressing election rallies at Dohosoho, Maanpur, Kasathi, Mahuatand and Amdiha.

Dumka: Citing the Jharkhand government’s Tuesday’s order banning all outdoor programmes barring marriage and funerals in wake of a surge in new Covid cases, Godda deputy commissioner Bhor Singh Yadav on Wednesday asked the divisional railway manager (DRM) of the Malda division of the Indian Railway to cancel the scheduled flagging-off ceremony of the Godda-New Delhi Humsafar express from the newly built Godda railway station on Thursday. The train is scheduled to be virtually flagged off by railway minister Piyush Goyal from New Delhi while Godda MP Nishikant Dubey is due to attend the ceremony in Godda in person. Chief minister Hemant Soren is also expected to join the ceremony online from Ranchi. Malda division’s response to Yadav’s letter was not known till the time of filing the report.

Ranchi: Former Jamtara MLA Bishnu Prasad Bhaiya, 58, succumbed to the deadly Covid-19 infection at a city hospital on Saturday night. After his death, chief minister Hemant Soren said the second wave of the pandemic has reached Jharkhand and appealed to the public to seriously follow safety rules. Bhaiya, who was a legislator from the constituency twice, was suffering from kidney ailment and was admitted to the critical care unit of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) on March 16. While at Rims, he was diagnosed with multiple complications and infection of the lungs. He was discharged after treatment before Holi, but as his condition worsened, he was brought to the Bhagwan Mahavir Medica Superspecialty Hospital after the festival.

Ranchi: JMM on Saturday convened two separate meetings central executive committee and the legislative party under the chairmanship of party president Shibu Soren and decided the strategy for the Madhupur bypolls. The party leaders resolved to register a historical victory, understanding well the importance of the election which has been dubbed as a referendum for Hemant Soren’s 15-month rule in the state by the BJP. Party general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said support of all like-minded political outfits will be sought for. “We have decided to form 11 clusters which will look after the 66 panchayats of Madhupur constituency,” he said. Bhattacharya said responsibilities have been given to the party leaders for each panchayat and directed them to monitor the affairs till the level of the polling booths.
