LAHORE: The federal government on Friday told the Lahore High Court that rules, as directed by the latter, had been framed and placed before the cabinet for approval to evolve a mechanism for fixation of essential goods’ prices. Justice Shahid Jamil Khan was hearing a petition by sugar mills challenging a notification of the government wherein ex-mill sugar price had been fixed at Rs83.4 and retail price Rs88.24. The counsel for the millers argued that the impugned notification had been issued without complying with the directions by the LHC whereby the government was ordered to frame rules or policy for fixation of sugar price.

Delay in price control mechanism riles LHC - Newspaper

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has expressed serious dismay over the government’s failure to present a mechanism to control prices of sugar and other essential items. “Nothing substantial has been brought before this court except saying that they are working to make a mechanism to control prices. No time frame or steps for the mechanism have yet been brought to this court,” Justice Shahid Jamil Khan observed in an order issued about Friday’s hearing on petitions relating to the price of sugar. The petitioners, the sugar mills, questioned the government’s act of selling sugar lifted on the court’s order in Ramazan bazaars without any legal authority.

Sugar sale points at ‘Ramazan Sasta’ Bazaars increased Islamabad April 23, 2021 Rawalpindi : Following the directions of Lahore High Court (LHC) the local administration increased the sugar sale points up to 408 in Rawalpindi here on Thursday. Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah ordered the local administration to further increase 2 sugar sale points in all ‘Ramazan Sasta’ Bazaars. The Commissioner has also directed to end the clause of showing ID card or submitting copy of ID card in buying of subsidized sugar. The local administration has increased sugar points to avoid long queues. Some two days back, the Lahore High Court (LHC) expressed anger and passed strong remarks against Punjab government for making citizens stand in long queues to buy sugar at subsidized rate. “The government has turned the people (into) beggars in the name of Rs15 discount on sugar price,” Justice Shahid Jamil Khan regretted while hearing petitions of sugar mills
