Staff reports Shawnee Police Chief Mason Wilson recently presented Jeff Rodgers with a new Shawnee Police Department Corporal s badge. It was more than 20 years ago on May 10, 1999 when Rodgers, a Shawnee patrol officer with nine years on the job, was shot by a murder suspect during a traffic stop in downtown Shawnee. Despite his critical injuries, Rodgers clung to life but was left paralyzed from that shooting. Recently, the department updated the design of its law enforcement badges and Shawnee Police Chief Mason Wilson wanted Rodgers to be a part of that  and at a rank he never had a chance to complete.

Now, Sanders gets monthly reminders from the Small Business Administration to pay the loan back, though she never applied for the money. A Shawnee Mission Post analysis revealed that the addresses and names of at least 35 Johnson County residents have been used to apply for loans to apparently non-existent or fake farm businesses. In September, Suzanne Sanders received a notice in the mail. It said she needed to start paying back a $9,100 coronavirus relief loan to the federal Small Business Administration (SBA) by August 2021.

Freezing drizzle and hazardous roads reported in Shawnee

News-Star staff With frigid cold temperatures and overnight freezing drizzle, slick and hazardous road conditions are reported in the Shawnee area and in much of the central Oklahoma. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, eastbound Interstate 40 near the Kickapoo Street exit has to be shut down about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday because of an overturned tractor-trailer rig. Shawnee roads also are slick. Travel is discouraged, but if you must travel, slow down, give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and make sure you have supplies available such as blankets, water, and snacks in the event your vehicle becomes disabled, said Shawnee Police Department Cpl. Vivian Lozano-Stafford.

Shawnee trustees change levy to get it on May ballot By Josh Ellerbrock - jellerbrock@limanews.com SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP The Shawnee Township trustees held an emergency meeting Monday afternoon to ensure that the township’s proposed police levy makes it onto the May 4 ballot. Shawnee Police Chief Mike Keith said after filing the planned levy, the Ohio Board of Elections communicated that the township would have to substitute its planned 10-year police levy with a five-year one to legally make it on the ballot. Trustees met Monday to make the change in order to submit the levy before this week’s filing deadline.
