MANCHESTER, NH – The Somerset Patriots (5-2) at one point had erased their largest deficit of the season, but ultimately fell short to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (2-5) Tuesday night in a 6-5 loss to begin their longest road trip of the season.
The Fisher Cats had one of the top Toronto Blue Jays prospects, RHP Simeon Woods-Richardson (1-0) on the mound Tuesday night. Woods-Richardson, who had struck out eight batters over four innings in his first start of the year, struck out eight batters over five innings of one-run baseball this time out against Somerset.

In the first series of the season, only five teams in the Triple-A East had one loss. This series features two of those squads.
Brody Koerner gets the ball for the RailRiders in the series opener. On May 5 against the Syracuse Mets, Koener struggled with command, but he was able to keep the Mets off the scoreboard. He went four scoreless innings, allowed one hit, walked three, and struck out four on 51 pitches (28 strikes).
After walking two of the first three hitters he faced, the 27-year-old retired 9 of the final 11 hitters he faced in the no-decision. Koerner faced the IronPigs three times in 2019 and went 0-2 while allowing ten earned runs over 13.2 innings of work.

The minor league season is just underway and already two of the Yankees’ newer touted prospects are piling up hits, especially the ones assigned to the Tampa Tarpons, who were demoted from Class A Advanced to Class A this season.
Catcher Austin Wells, the Yankees’ first-round draft pick in 2020, has begun his season with consecutive standout performances and outfielder Trevor Hauver, a third-round pick in 2020, has been even better. Two games in, the left-handed hitters have combined for nine hits, four homers and 11 RBI while Tampa amazingly has scored 30 runs in starting its season 2-0.

When Somerset Patriots pitcher Shawn Semple was a South Jersey kid from Voorhees, the Phillies were his team. He was 13 when they won the World Series in 2008 and one of his favorite players was their amazing left-hander who was winning games into his mid-to-late-40s throwing 82-mph fastballs.
“I watched Jamie Moyer for years, and that dude did it,” the Yankees farmhand said Wednesday night after his standout season debut, a four-shutout-innings start in the Patriots’ 3-1 home victory over the Harrisburg Senators.
