Impacts COVID-19 and UIL restrictions have on high school athletics By Erin Wides | December 17, 2020 at 8:22 PM CST - Updated December 28 at 1:36 AM LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - High school football season is coming to an end, which means athletic departments will soon learn the financial impact caused by fewer people at games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The UIL created rules for athletes, coaches, and spectators to follow this season. This included wearing a face mask, social distancing, and allowing for fifty percent capacity at games. Marty Murr, San Augustine’s Athletic Director, said that their band program took a hit due to low concession sales.

District Court

Two sessions of Jackson County District Court were held last week at the Justice Center with Judge Monica Leslie presiding. A session mainly for traffic cases was held Dec. 7, with a session for other cases Dec. 8. Results of the sessions are listed below, with information obtained from records on file with the Jackson County Clerk of Court office. Defendants pleaded guilty unless indicated otherwise. In addition to dismissals and infractions, dispositions included: Dec. 7 Nicholas Church, 44, Atlanta, Ga., driving while impaired – level five, sentence of not less than nor more than 60 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition he pay fine of $100 and costs, obtain substance abuse assessment, surrender driver’s license and perform 24 hours community service.
