Livingston Residents Commemorate National Vietnam War Veterans Day

April 5, 2021 at 12:10 AM LIVINGSTON, NJ  Residents, first responders and township officials stopped by the Livingston Memorial Oval last week to remember local soldiers during a National Vietnam War Veterans Day ceremony, where certificates were presented to the families of Livingston’s Vietnam War Veterans and special tribute was paid to former township manager Charles Chuck Tahaney, a local veteran who died in February. During the ceremony, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2856 and American Legion Post 201 invited the public to help them honor all those who actively served their country from 1975 to 1995. “When Vietnam vets came back to this country after fighting, they were shamed,” said Livingston Mayor Shawn Klein. “Not only was it traumatic for them to go to war, but it was also traumatic for them to come back especially, if you can imagine, for someone who s suffering from PTSD and the like. March 16, 2021 at 2:20 PM LIVINGSTON, NJ  During the German City of Frankfurt am Main’s first-ever Mayors Summit Against Anti-Semitism a live virtual event held on Tuesday in conjunction with the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement (CAM) in order to “empower the world’s brightest municipal and local leaders to come together to eradicate prejudice and hatred” in their cities Livingston Mayor Dr. Shawn Klein was one of 44 mayors from 21 countries to participate and one of only three mayors to represent the United States. LIVINGSTON, NJ Livingston continues to mourn for one of its “favorite sons,” Charles Tahaney, who died last week at the age of 75. Tahaney, a third-generation “favorite son of Livingston,” passed away quietly on Feb. 10. According to his obituary, which can be seen in full here: “Educated in the Livingston public schools, he was a proud graduate of the LHS class of 1963. He graduated in 1967 from St. Peter s College, Jersey City with a BS in English/Education. In 1972 he earned an MBA in public administration from Seton Hall s Paul Stillman School of Business.
