Updates to Moncton City Council From Codiac RCMP Superintendent

Moncton, NB, Canada / 91.9 The Bend Feb 2, 2021 6:30 AM Codiac Regional RCMP Superintendent Tom Critchlow found himself answering questions for more topics than he probably would have liked to at Monday’s City Council Meeting. Councillors first questioned the recent COVID-19 case of an RCMP member. The officer of the Codiac detachment is believed to have been infected after reporting to an incident where an individual was carrying the virus. Critchlow indicated that a plan is being developed for a scenario where a mass number of officers were infected. He later noted that there was a plan in place after concern was expressed by Deputy Mayor Shawn Crossman.

Codiac RCMP To Ticket Anti-Mask Demonstrators

Codiac RCMP will be taking a new approach when it comes to anti-mask rallies in downtown Moncton. While the focus has been on education, Superintendent Tom Critchlow told Moncton City Council we are now in the Red Phase of pandemic recovery and individuals could be ticketed for violating public health guidelines. “We will work individually in issuing tickets contrary to the provincial Emergency Measures Act. We will take those steps while respecting people’s rights,” he notes. Councillor Paulette Theriault has not been impressed by the demonstrations and applauds the new strategy. She noted how more than two million people have died related to COVID-19 and she said it’s beyond her comprehension that anyone wouldn’t be concerned.
