Brown County racism resolution first step toward fixing inequities

GREEN BAY - Rania Jones felt alone when she moved from Milwaukee to Green Bay to attend college. She was the only Black person at her job on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus, and a manager often commented on her hair. Her white peers avoided her. No one has called her a racial slur, she said, but these experiences  known as microaggressions  are still harmful and add up over time. They were pretty scared to come to me, talk to me, said Jones, now a sophomore and president of the Black Student Union. I kind of felt isolated in many of my classes.

Lisa Sharon Harper, "Anti-Racism as a Spiritual Practice"

Simran Jeet Singh: Thank you for watching the Religion News Service series, “Anti-Racism as a Spiritual Practice.” I’m your host, Dr. Simran Jeet Singh. And this episode is part of the second season of our series, which we filmed late in 2020. The first season, which was entitled, “Becoming Less Racist,” can be viewed on religionnews.com. We thank Columbia University and Trinity University for their support in making the second season possible. So, I’m ready to introduce Lisa Sharon Harper, who is incredible for, for a lot of reasons. She’s, she’s a prolific writer, activist, thinker. I recently, most recently I’ve come across her in many different walks of life and have admired her work from a distance. She has an organization called Freedom Road, which is fantastic. She’s a fellow with Auburn Seminary. And most recently, well, let me say, over the pandemic, I started following her Instagram Lives, which are just so compelling and so insightful. And occasionall

Some Southern Baptist pastors are calling Kamala Harris 'Jezebel.' What do they mean?

Two days, to be exact. On Jan. 22, Tom Buck, pastor of First Baptist Church of Lindale, Texas, equated Kamala Harris with the biblical Jezebel. “I can’t imagine any truly God-fearing Israelite who would’ve wanted their daughters to view Jezebel as an inspirational role model because she was a woman in power,” Buck tweeted. He has since doubled down in the face of criticism, tweeting “I 100% stand by it,” and insisting, “Should Jezebel, who governed in godless ways, have been a role model simply because she was a woman in power? If not, why should Kamala, who’s governed in godless ways, be a role model just because she’s a woman in power?”
