“Every drawer was marked, not with a case number, but with a photograph of a little girl,” Sharon recalled recently. “My little
girl.”
As the years passed, Sharon kept believing that Michaela would be found alive. A week before the little girl was abducted, she had written a poem.
“It s about people who were kidnapped and are being held captive, not people who were kidnapped and were killed,’” Michaela told her mum at
the time.

David Misch, 59, has been imprisoned since 1990 and is also awaiting trial for the 1986 killings of two best friends.
The family of a 9-year-old girl snatched from a California market in 1988 is finally getting some answers after an incarcerated 59-year-old, currently in prison for an unrelated murder conviction, was charged in her kidnapping and killing. David Misch appeared in court Tuesday in connection to 9-year-old Michaela Garecht’s disappearance and murder 32 years ago.
Misch, who has been imprisoned in a California state prison since 1990, did not enter a plea at his virtual arraignment, and will appear in court again on Jan. 22., KTVU reported.
After news broke of two murder charges against David Misch, we spoke with Midsi Sanchez who was kidnapped in Vallejo as a child, and Marc Klaas, whose daughter Polly was kidnapped in Petaluma.
Misch is already in Santa Rita Jail serving a prior murder conviction and is awaiting trial for a double murder committed in Fremont in 1986 of friends Jennifer Duey and Michelle Xavier.
Now, other law enforcement agencies including Dublin Police Services, are revisiting their kidnapping cold cases.
Ilene Misheloff was last seen walking home from school in Dublin on Jan. 30, 1989. Definitely piqued our interest and sparked us to look into this individual to see if there s any links to our case as well, said Nate Schmidt, Captain with Dublin Police Services.
