Padgett seeks to kick the Facebook habit at least for a while

A post from Gaston County YMCA CEO Sharon Padgett catches my still half-asleep eye. Time to give Facebook a break., she wrote I will be working at the Y for it feeds my passion, she explained. I will be spending time with family because they are priority. I will be with my husband, either riding our SxS in West Virginia with my Black Dog Ranch buddies, or sharing time together with our dogs at home. And then some parting words of advice: Find some time for you and what feeds your soul. Put your phones down and look to the faces that are wanting your attention. Hugs and happiness to you all!

H&M Catering earns YMCA Volunteer of the Year Award

H&M Catering earns YMCA Volunteer of the Year Award Each year, the Gaston County Family YMCA honors an individual dedicated to serving the community with its Volunteer of the Year Award. In 2020 this award is being given to Hans and Megan Kanal from H&M Catering, located in Mount Holly, for their tireless work combating hunger during the COVID-19 shutdown. One in five children in North Carolina struggle with food insecurity, which can be an anxiety-provoking issue for kids who struggle with hunger and don’t have access to free and reduced lunch at school. In addition to children, COVID-19 has impacted seniors, many of whom were on waiting lists to receive home deliveries.
