Restaurant news: Downtown Sarasota s Bijou Cafe sold to Sage owner The restaurant group says it plans to continue normal operations at Bijou Cafe. After 35 years, one of downtown Sarasota s longest-running dining establishments has been sold to a restaurant group that owns another popular downtown spot. The Bijou Café has been sold to the Realm Restaurant Group represented by Sharon Carole, which also owns and operates Sage, according to a statement. Bijou Café had  operated since 1986 under chef Jean-Pierre J.P. Knaggs and his wife Shay, who plan to retire with the transfer of ownership completed. “I was so happy to sell to Sharon because I know she will continue it,” Knaggs said in the statement. “It’s like having a wonderful antique car and someone buys it who loves it. You know it will be well taken care of.”

Kojo to open in downtown Sarasota A new Asian restaurant, featuring the same ownership as a popular Sarasota-Manatee dining destination, will take over a prime location in downtown Sarasota. Kojo has moved into the 1289 N. Palm Ave. space that formerly housed Lemon Tree Kitchen on Palm Avenue Parking Garage’s ground floor, with hopes to open by late February, said co-owner Natalia Levey. She is also an owner of Speaks Clam Bar, a New York-style Italian clam bar with Lakewood Ranch and St. Armands Circle locations. Levey said Kojo was inspired by time she spent in Asia as well as traveling with her husband, and will incorporate cuisines from across the continent in its menu.

Royce A. Carroll  ROCKPORT – Royce A. Carroll, 86, went home to be with his Lord, Tuesday, December 29, 2020, in the comfort of his home, with his beloved wife of 66 years at his side. Born in Rockport, October 31, 1934, Royce grew up in West Rockport. He attended local schools and was a 1954 graduate of Rockport High School. As a teen, he enjoyed Scouting as a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 214 in Rockport. Royce married the ‘Love of his life’, Dorothy L. Staples, at the Rockport Baptist Church, August 8, 1954.  Dot and Royce made their home, built by Royce in West Rockport, where they raised their two daughters, welcomed two son’s-in-law and have loved and doted on their grandchildren, extended family and friends.
