Top Regional News: Brother of Peoria s latest homicide victim also died in shooting Illlinois News Desk Brother of Peoria s latest homicide victim also died in shooting  PEORIA For the second time in three months, almost to the day, a family lost a loved one to gunfire: Friday night, Jevon Gilliam, 31, was shot to death, nearly three months since his brother, Robert Gilliam Jr., 31, was shot and killed Nov. 2 in the 2900 block of North Knoxville Avenue.   Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood confirmed Monday that the two were brothers. Harwood said that Jevon Gilliam likely died instantly when he was shot late Friday night several times at a South Peoria gas station. Additional details regarding range of fire and caliber of weapon are being withheld, pending continued investigation by the Peoria Police Department.

Midwest Communications PEORIA, Ill.   A combined nine residents of Peoria and Tazewell Counties died between Tuesday and Wednesday from COVID-19 complications. Tazewell reported the deaths of a man in his 60s, one in his 70s, a woman in her 80s, and one in her 90s. The woman in her 90s lived at Washington Senior Living. In Peoria, a man and woman in their 50s both died. A woman in her 60s who lived at Sharon Elms passed away, as did a man in his 60s at Sharon Willows, and a woman in her 70s who was a resident of Liberty Village.

Joe Deacon / WCBU Three more Peoria County residents of long-term care facilities have succumbed to COVID-19, with Tri-County health officials reporting Tuesday an increase of 276 coronavirus infections in the past day. The region added 113 active COVID cases since Monday. While Peoria-area hospitals reported 108 coronavirus patients – down 23 from the day before – the number of residents in home isolation climbed to 2,833. The three latest victims were a man in his 70s from Sharon Willows, and two women in their 80s – one from Sharon Elms and one from Manor Court. Their deaths bring the Tri-County area’s total fatalities to 428, with 151 in just over one month (277 on Dec. 4). The region’s case count stands at 27,527.

Top Regional News: COVID complications kill in 18 Peoria area over Christmas weekend Illinois News Desk COVID complications kill in 18 Peoria area over Christmas weekend PEORIA – Eighteen Peoria area people died over the Christmas holiday weekend due to complications after being infected with the novel coronavirus. Public health officials announced that nine people from Peoria County and nine people from Tazewell County died between Dec. 24 and Monday. That brings the Tri-County death toll to 385 since the pandemic began; since Dec. 1, 128 people have died. Within Peoria County, there were five men and four women who died. All but one were older than 60. The one man who in his 20s had prior health conditions that could have contributed to his death, public health officials said. In Peoria County, three were residents of Sharon Elms and one was a resident of Sharon Willows.
