(WTXL) — We make a 100,000-pound impact that s what Good News Outreach Director of Operations, Rebecca Howard, had to say about their and Second Harvest s effort to help fight food insecurity. Since January 1, 2021, Good News Outreach has delivered over 100,000 pounds of food to Leon County. This was made possible by Second Harvest of the Big Bend. Food insecurity has gone up 50 percent across the area since the start of COVID-19.

We don t talk about this but this is a basic need, this is a basic hygiene need, and obviously there s a lot of shame and embarrassment when you don t have these products and we want to make this an equitable thing, we want to help do our part, Hubbard said.

Givens is with the Community Co-Op Market and said it s part of their Change for our community program. It allows us to give organizations that might not receive money a quick little donation and it doesn t cost a lot for customers, but every penny truly does count, said Givens.
