Harrisburg, PA – Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding today announced the approval of nearly $400,000 in Farm to School Grants to fund 39 projects that will improve access to healthy, local foods and increase agricultural awareness opportunities for children pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. The children of today are the future of Pennsylvania agriculture, said Redding. Harrisburg, PA – Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding today announce that the state s program that rescues surplus agricultural products from waste and redirects it to the charitable food system, the Pennsylvania Agricultural Surplus System (PASS), has officially exceeded more than 20 million pounds of food. That s 20 million pounds of fresh, locally produced products put into the hands of those who need it most over the past five years. In a state as agriculturally rich as Pennsylvania, no one should go hungry. In 2016, Governor Wolf acknowledged the need for a connection between the agriculture industry and our charitable food system by funding the Pennsylvania Agricultural Surplus System, said Redding. Agriculture Secretary: $445,000 in PA Farm Bill Funds Available for Research Projects to Strengthen, Grow Livestock, Poultry Industries

Harrisburg, PA - Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding today called for proposals for research projects that will strengthen and grow Pennsylvania’s poultry, swine, lamb, sheep and goat farming industries. Funded by the 2020 PA Farm Bill, $445,000 is available for research projects to enhance biosecurity, diagnostic testing, veterinary telemedicine and other strategies to prevent, detect and manage animal diseases and protect the food supply.
“Science helps us produce more food and do it safely and sustainably, staying ahead of evolving diseases that bring catastrophic farm losses, devastate our economy and disrupt our food chain,” said Redding. “Our goal is to invest in projects that help Pennsylvania produce food more safely, humanely and efficiently, boosting the bottom line across all types and sizes of farms.”
