The Observatory has been informed about the attempts to intimidate Malaysian human rights lawyer Mr.
Charles Hector for his work representing eight defendants who are opposing logging activities in the Jerantut Permanent Forest Reserve in Pahang State.
On January 14, 2021, Malaysian companies Beijing Million Sendirian Berhad Sdn Bhd and Rosah Timber & Trading Sendirian Berhad[1] filed an application to the Kuantan High Court in Pahang State to commence contempt proceedings against Mr. Hector and his eight clients. On March 25, 2021, the court adjourned contempt proceedings against Mr. Hector and his eight clients to April 6, 2021 and then, again, to April 8, 2021. KOTA BHARU, Jan 24 A bomoh pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to sexually assaulting a woman who had approached him for treatment.
Wan Ismail Wan Md Zain, 53, made the plea before Judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin.
He was charged under Section 377CA of the Penal Code with having sexual connection using an object on the 28-year-old female patient in a house in Kampung Permatang Pusu, here, at 8.50pm last January 12.

BHARU: A bomoh pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to sexually assaulting a woman who had approached him for treatment.
Wan Ismail Wan Md Zain, 53, made the plea before Judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin.
He was charged under Section 377CA of the Penal Code with having sexual connection using an object on the 28-year-old female patient in a house in Kampung Permatang Pusu, here, at 8.50 pm last Jan 12.
The man faced an imprisonment for up to 30 years and whipping, if found guilty.
The court allowed him bail of RM15,000 with one surety and ordered the man to report himself at the nearest police station every month and to not intimidate the victim and witnesses.

Kuala Lumpur: 1Malaysia Development Fund (1MDB) was a company with political links and was set up to assist Umno through strategic investments, the fund’s former CEO said.
Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman told the Najib Razak corruption trial that this was the perception he had from his conversation with Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, during a meeting in 2012 before he joined 1MDB.
Former prime minister Najib is facing 25 charges of abuse of power and money laundering over alleged 1MDB funds amounting to RM2.28 billion deposited into his AmBank accounts between February 2011 and December 2014.
