Private equity giant Thoma Bravo has agreed to purchase email security powerhouse Proofpoint for US$12.3 billion in the biggest cybersecurity acquisition of all time.
The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company said the proposed acquisition will give Proofpoint the flexibility and resources needed to continue providing an effective cybersecurity and compliance offering. Proofpoint also expects to benefit from Thoma Bravo’s operating capabilities, capital support and deep sector experience. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2021.

Private equity giant Thoma Bravo has agreed to purchase email security powerhouse Proofpoint for $12.3 billion in the biggest cybersecurity acquisition of all time.
The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company said the proposed acquisition will give Proofpoint the flexibility and resources needed to continue providing an effective cybersecurity and compliance offering. Proofpoint also expects to benefit from San Francisco-based Thoma Bravo’s operating capabilities, capital support and deep sector experience. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2021.
Proofpoint has agreed to purchase data loss protection MSP InteliSecure to help customers protect critical data in diverse environments.
The email security vendor said its proposed US$62.5 million acquisition of Greenwood Village, Colo.-based InteliSecure will simplify data protection for customers by streamlining policy creation and providing unified event visibility across tools. InteliSecure also will deliver real-time reporting required by key stakeholders and reduce noise to increase focus on critical incidents.
“We’ve seen exceptional customer demand for information protection managed services as organizations are continuing to work in a cloud-first, remote-oriented world,” Proofpoint CEO Gary Steele said in a statement. “The acquisition of InteliSecure will support our ability to collectively help our customers and partners with people-centric managed security services.”
