Ramadan 2021 will be unlike any other. As vaccines present a ray of hope, and lockdowns are relaxed, Muslims the world over will be seeing their loved ones in person, a welcome change from the year before. A post-pandemic Ramadan presents opportunities for businesses like they’ve never seen before. From consumer durables to fashion, and personal care to digital products, the Islamic community will splurge on gifting and for gratifying pent-up needs. If brands are not riding this wave, it is certainly an opportunity missed.

From women s day discounts to inspirational films, from celebrating exceptional female talent to launching new initiatives or donating to charities, there are plenty of ways that brands have chosen to get involved. Some efforts and messages have been, and will continue to be, better received better than others. Wunderman Thompson Indonesia kickstarted 2021 with a new look senior team. Joining in January this year are Executive Creative Director Philipp Cerny, Chief Strategy Officer Adam Thurland, Business Director Neelakshi Medhi and Integrated Content Director Nicole Hedemann.
The hires highlight Wunderman Thompson Indonesia’s ambitious and progressive vision for 2021. Cerny was a founding member of PUNX, a cross-region creative project house, working mostly with Chinese tech platforms, and was recently at the creative helm of the China office of Jung Von Matt, one of the top 3 independent agencies worldwide. Thurland led development of the Google Design Sprint Chapter in Shanghai, and also co-founded Furlonteer.com in 2020, a solution platform to connect volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
