The Isle of Wight Road Races and the Diamond Races hope to race bikes on Isle of Wight Roads in 2022. Green Party candidates have slammed as an ineffective tick-box exercise, a consultation on plans for two motorbike road races on the Island s roads. Two separate events, the Isle of Wight Road Races and the Diamond Races, want to bring elite bike racing across The Solent, to the Island. Early-stage plans have revealed that Brook, Chessell, Tapnell, Freshwater Bay and Compton could all be on the route, with hard road closures, and the removal of road signs, street furniture and cat’s eyes.
The proposed motorcycle events, Diamond Races and a time trial will, if accepted, become a long-term attraction. Granted, the next couple of years will show an influx of other visitors who cannot or will not travel to other countries but after that, as the threat of Covid becomes less, we will see a decline in tourism as people understandably prefer the beaches of Spain and Greece. It seems to me that parish councillor Daniel James (Freshwater) is unfortunately looking at the short-term. The IW not only has an ageing population but also ageing visitors, being regarded as the Warmington-on-Sea of resorts.

ALL Motorcycle Events Cancelled On Isle Of Wight This Year

No motorcycle races will happen on the Isle of Wight this year.
The Leader of the Isle of Wight Council, Dave Stewart has confirmed that the Isle of Wight Motorcycle Road Races planned for October 2021 - will not be taking place.
The Diamond Races event that was planned for the summer has also been postponed until 2022.
Following meetings with local Parish Councils and discussions with both officers and organisers, the decision has been confirmed.
