After conducting a virtual graduation last year, Whitley County High School held its 58th commencement ceremony at the Corbin Arena Saturday morning. Students were provided masks by the high school and sat six feet apart during the ceremony. Members of Whitley Countyâs JROTC program performed the presentation of colors, while senior members of Whitley Countyâs choir sang both âThe Star-Spangled Bannerâ and âMy
Two incoming juniors at Williamsburg Independent School will have the opportunity to work alongside the district’s chief information officer to learn about information technology, receive a small pay check, and certification.
The Williamsburg Independent Board of Education unanimously approved an agreement between Dataseam and the district to employ and train students in information technology during its meeting on April 20.
Williamsburg Superintendent Tim Melton said that students would begin in the fall working and completing coursework. The work would continue through the summer into the spring of the students’ senior year.
The district’s plan is to hire the students in the summer, so that they could complete some training before the apprenticeship would officially begin in the fall.
Whitley County High School’s Colonel Players brought home several honors during the 12
th Annual Eastern Kentucky Dramatic Arts Society (EKDAS) Festival, which was held Saturday at Whitley County High School.
The Whitley County Colonel Players play “In the Garden of the Selfish Giant” was awarded a third place finish in the festival and garnered two tech awards for best tree and best light/sound design.
“Most remarkably, three out of the four actors were also awarded. Makenzie Lunsford and Destiny Cureton were awarded with Mountain Top Ten Cast awards, and Kara Helton was awarded a Best Supporting Actor award. All, including our fourth actor, Makena Jaide, had tremendous performances, putting many tears in the eyes of the audience and touching people with warmth and emotion with their performances,” Whitley County drama instructor David Sweet wrote.

This past weekend, Whitley County High Schoolâs drama department, the Colonel Players, hosted the 12th Annual EKDAS (Eastern Kentucky Dramatic Arts Society) Festival and walked away with several awards.
