The News Journal Colonel Players bring home EKDAS Festival awards – The News Journal

Whitley County High School’s Colonel Players brought home several honors during the 12 th Annual Eastern Kentucky Dramatic Arts Society (EKDAS) Festival, which was held Saturday at Whitley County High School. The Whitley County Colonel Players play “In the Garden of the Selfish Giant” was awarded a third place finish in the festival and garnered two tech awards for best tree and best light/sound design. “Most remarkably, three out of the four actors were also awarded. Makenzie Lunsford and Destiny Cureton were awarded with Mountain Top Ten Cast awards, and Kara Helton was awarded a Best Supporting Actor award. All, including our fourth actor, Makena Jaide, had tremendous performances, putting many tears in the eyes of the audience and touching people with warmth and emotion with their performances,” Whitley County drama instructor David Sweet wrote.

Destiny Cureton Kara Helton This past weekend, Whitley County High School’s drama department, the Colonel Players, hosted the 12th Annual EKDAS (Eastern Kentucky Dramatic Arts Society) Festival and walked away with several awards. This year’s festival saw performances by drama departments from Clay County, Leslie County, McCreary County, Perry Central and Whitley County. Whitley County’s cast of “In the Garden of the Selfish Giant,” received third place overall honors during the festival. The News Journal Colonel Players presenting 'Alibis' April 29-30 – The News Journal

The Whitley County High School’s Colonel Players will be having a busy seven days starting Saturday. First the group will be hosting the Eastern Kentucky Dramatic Arts Society (EKDAS) Festival for the first time on Saturday, April 24. Then days later the group will be presenting its second play of the year with two public performances. Admission is free to Saturday’s EKDAS festival, which will start with opening ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. at the Whitley County High School Amphitheater. The rain venue for the event will be the Charles M. Lawson Gymnasium. At 10 a.m., Clay County will present “Good Morning, Miriam,” by Jacquelyn Floyd-Priskorn.
