The attempted murder case will return to court next month. THE case against a teenage girl accused of attempting to murder her grandmother has been put off until next month. The 14 year old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has yet to plead to a count of attempted murder and was not required for this morning s hearing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court. The alleged attack took place at a flat in Shanklin on February 19. Electric bass and lead guitars were allegedly used as weapons against her grandmother. The teenager was remanded in custody, but has been excused attending a further plea and trial management hearing at Portsmouth Crown Court on June 28.
By Court Reporter A FORMER school cook has been charged with a number of historic child abuse offences. Michael Norman Smith, of Willow Way, Sandown, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday (May 11). The 57-year-old is charged with two counts of indecent assault on child, between January 1, 1997, and December 31, 2001. He is also charged with three counts of gross indecency with a child, during the same period of time. His case was adjourned to June 14 at the Isle of Wight Crown Court. He was granted unconditional bail.
