P. Balachandran, screenwriter, filmmaker, dramatist and actor, passed away at his home in Vaikom early on Monday. He was 69.

Malayalam author, actor and screenwriter, P Balachandran, died in Kerala on April 5 after his battle with brain fever.
He was 69 and was last seen on the big screen with actor Mammootty in the political drama ‘One’ as a political leader.
According to report in India Today, the actor was bedridden for the last eight months and was undergoing treatment for meningitis. He died around 5am today.
The final rites will be held at his home in Vaikom in Kerala this evening.
Born as Padmanabhan Balachandran Nair in 1952, he began career as an extra in Richard Attenborough’s landmark 1982 film ‘Gandhi’ and has appeared in films including ‘Silence’ and ‘Trivandrum Lodge’.

15.93 lakh voters to decide fate of 66 candidates in nine Assembly segments
After the high-octane campaign lasting about three weeks, stage is now set for polling in the nine Assembly segments across Kottayam that will begin at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to officials, all arrangements are in place in the 2,406 polling booths in the district. Prior to commencing the polling, a mock poll to test the efficiency of the electronic voting machines will be conducted at 5.30 a.m. Of the total polling stations, one booth in each Assembly segment will be run by women officials.
