140 seats are going to the polls in a single phase of Kerala Assembly elections on April 6. Though the main contenders are CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front and Congress-led United Democratic Front, the BJP is hoping to pull off a major upset.

The year 2016 was when the BJP won a seat in Kerala for the first time. Party veteran O Rajagopal won from Nemom after receiving 67,813 votes. In seven other constituencies Manjeshwar, Kasargod, Chathannur, Malampuzha, Palakkad, Kazhakkoottam and Vattiyoorkavu the BJP had come second.
