CONNECTICUT Gov. Ned Lamont signed two bills into law this week, including one that gives employers a break on their unemployment insurance taxes.
The governor signed House Bill 5377, An Act Concerning the Removal of COVID-19 Related Layoffs from the Unemployment Compensation Experience Account on Monday. Once it goes into effect, the state will disregard an employer s benefit charges and taxable wages between July 1, 2019, and June 30, 2021, when calculating the employer s unemployment tax experience rate for taxable years starting on or after Jan. 1, 2022.

Dollars used to help create programs, cut down debt
NIKI KELLY | The Journal Gazette
INDIANAPOLIS – Billions in one-time state and federal dollars fill the proposed state budget – some to be squirreled away for the future and the rest to flood the economy within the next few years.
From programs targeting mental health and struggling businesses to capital projects and debt payment, GOP leaders hope the investments will continue Indiana s forward movement.
“I am proud to invest in the future of Indiana, and I believe this budget proposal truly reflects the needs of the Hoosier State over the next two years and beyond,” said Sen. Ryan Mishler, R-Bremen. He is the Senate budget chief.
