Reader letters on ideas to improve Savannah and politicians

I earnestly wish for Savannah to be the city we need it to be by: Enforcing Mayor Van Johnson’s efforts to “make Savannah safer, equitable and accessible for all.” The REAL Task Force identifying and dismantling city policies and procedures that have resulted in unequal outcomes. Mandating that all employers pay a living wage. Making more affordable housing available. Forcing SCAD to contribute to Savannah financially for the free services that cover its growing non-taxable campus. Supporting District Attorney Shalena Cook-Jones as she overhauls the plea bargain process and enacts procedures and programs that will reduce childhood trauma, non-violent incarceration and unfair cash bail for low level offenses.

Savannah s early returns in the U S Senate runoffs favor Democrats

Savannah Morning News UPDATE (1:22 p.m., Wed.): On Wednesday afternoon, the Chatham County Board of Elections announced that 33,000 of the 34,576 absentee ballots had been processed. The count was as of 1 p.m.  They added that a delivery of 4,000 ballots were expected this afternoon and they expect to complete all remaining ballots by the end of Wednesday. Once updated, these results will include all Election Day in-poll ballots, all Advanced Voting in-poll ballots, and all Absentee-By-Mail ballots received to date, the elections board said in a statement. Earlier story: Chatham County s election results in Tuesday s U.S. Senate runoffs looked familiar.

Sen Kelly Loeffler disappoints in her U S Senate runoff run

By her telling, a teenage Kelly Loeffler’s first job was pulling weeds in a soybean field. Decades later, Sen. Loeffler now toils in the warped crop circle that is national politics. Except today, she is the weed. Georgia voters will decide whether to pull her from her place Tuesday in the U.S. Senate runoffs. Her prospects of victory are good, a telling narrative on this moment in the history of American politics.  Put simply, her competition is as flawed as an outlet-mall diamond and the electorate as gullible as a toddler. Add to the equation conspiracy theories about election fraud and hundreds of millions of dollars in negative and misleading campaign advertising.
