As the spring semester nears an end, Middle Tennessee colleges and universities are already planning for the fall semester and the 2021-22 academic year. With the coronavirus vaccine more widely available, many are likely wondering if more students will be back on campus or if some classes might still be online if masks will still be required and even colleges plan on requiring students get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Most Middle Tennessee colleges planning for in-person class this fall

Here are the announced plans for Middle Tennessee colleges and universities. Austin Peay State University Austin Peay State University will return to in-person classes over the summer, with plans to continue in-person classes for the fall semester.  Belmont University After a year of offering both in-person, remote and hybrid courses and a presidential debate  Belmont University plans to return to in person classes this fall.  “Thanks to the vaccine rollout and improving trends related to COVID data, we have every reason to be optimistic about providing a more traditional learning and living experience on campus this fall, said outgoing president Bob Fisher in a news release.

While we recognize that the overall goal is for businesses to reach a level that obtains profit maximization, in our estimation, this recent closure is indicative of a problem that has continued to be persistent in marginalized and disadvantaged communities for more than a decade. Throughout that duration, Food Lions have closed in multiple locations while Food City,  Buehler’s and other neighborhood markets have been shuttered. These closures have only been exacerbated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
