(AP) An eastern Indiana man charged in the crash deaths of his two young children has pleaded guilty to charges that he had drugs in his system when his pickup truck was involved in last year s fiery crash. Robert W. Cook, 37, of Montpelier pleaded guilty Monday to two counts each of causing death when driving with a controlled substance in his system and possession of methamphetamine, and a single count of dealing in a narcotic drug, the Star Press reported. A Blackford Circuit Court judge who will decide whether to accept Cook’s guilty pleas tentatively set his sentencing for May 3. Under Cook s plea agreement, prosecutors would dismiss 10 other charges, including two counts of reckless homicide, he faces in the deadly October 2020 crash.

One person is dead, and another person hospitalized after an early morning apartment fire near Le Bonheur Children s Hospital. According to the Memphis Fire Department, the fire started on the ninth floor of the Helix at the District apartments caught fire Thursday morning around 1:15 a.m.  Lieutenant Wayne Cook with the Memphis Fire Department says, when firefighters got to the scene, it took about 22 minutes to knock the fire down. After doing a search of the apartment and evacuating the eighth and ninth floors, an elderly man was found dead, and another was found suffering from injuries related to smoke inhalation.

Ashlee Rezin Garcia/Sun-Times Young Chicago Authors announced major leadership changes Thursday after accusations that some top executives ignored allegations of sexual assault and were cultivating what one staff member called a “culture of silence.” Longtime artistic director Kevin Coval was ousted and executive director Rebecca Hunter resigned Thursday, according to a Young Chicago Authors statement. Hunter, who had been with the organization since 2011, had previously announced plans to leave in June. The shake-up was a “direct result of actions by staff on the behalf of the community we serve,” the group’s board of directors said in a statement.
