A SIX-year-old girl has raised money for Airedale Hospital after being inspired by Keighley-born Captain Sir Tom Moore. Little Emilia Bailey decided she wanted to do something in support of the Steeton hospital after taking part in the national clap commemorating the life of Captain Sir Tom, who raised more than £32 million for NHS charities by walking laps of his garden last year for his 100th birthday. He died last month. Emilia, who lives in Eastburn with mum Saraya and dad Sam, chose to take on a litter pick and an online fundraising page was set-up – which has coined-in hundreds of pounds.
PUPILS at a Keighley school have gone the extra mile. Youngsters at St Anne’s Catholic Primary spent a week focussing on how to keep safe and healthy – and raising money for charity. Afternoon teaching sessions were devoted to the theme, covering topics including healthy eating, mental health and online and road safety. And there was a host of activities. Pupils exercised daily and kept a record of their distance travelled. Staff took part in a virtual bike ride, and recorded the mileage. People were able to follow their progress on Twitter and via the school website. And the whole school community joined in at home by cycling, walking or running.
