Keighley town mayor pays tribute after amazing two years

KEIGHLEY town mayor Councillor Peter Corkindale has spoken of his “amazing” two years in the role. He said the pandemic had brought huge challenges and tragically claimed lives locally, which he hopes will be commemorated with an event once the situation allows. But he also pays tribute to the “brilliant” people of the town, whom he said he’d felt “extremely fortunate and privileged” to represent. Cllr Corkindale was elected mayor for a one-year term on May 16, 2019. However, he was re-elected to continue for an unprecedented second year following the Covid-19 outbreak and the start of lockdown. “The council felt it would be unfair to expect someone else to take over the mayoralty at a time when very little was happening and so decided to re-elect me – something I was happy to do,” said Cllr Corkindale, who steps down from the role this Thursday.

Peacocks, which has Bradford district branches, in rescue deal | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

COLLAPSED fashion chain Peacocks has been saved by a senior executive with backing from an international consortium, it has been announced. Chief operating officer Steve Simpson will take over the business, saving 2,000 jobs and 200 stores, which he hopes to reopen once lockdown restrictions on non-essential retailers ease. Peacocks has branches at New River Retail Park at Five Lane Ends in Bradford, the Airedale Shopping Centre in Keighley, and the Northgate Retail Centre, in Heckmondwike. The chain was part of retail mogul Philip Day s Edinburgh Woollen Mill (EWM) fashion empire which collapsed in November last year. Mr Day was the biggest creditor of Peacocks and is owed money by the business he once owned.
