With viral floor sensation, Nia Dennis in tow, the #14 UCLA Bruins hit the Huntsman Center on Friday night with upset on their minds, as they attempted to topple the #3 ranked Red Rocks. Senior Alexia Burch shined in the first rotation, nabbing a team high 9.975 on the vault, with no counted score falling below 9.800, giving Utah a two tenths lead before taking to the bars. The Red Rocks early success carried over the bars in their second rotation, where they opened up a .250 lead over the Bruins with a trio of 9.825 scores and a pair of 9.875’s from junior Cristal Isa and sophomore Maile O’Keefe, with nearly the entire rotation suffering from lackluster handstands that failed to pitch the needed 90 degree angle to avoid deductions.
Red Rocks Come From Behind to Secure Victory in the Desert

Mistakes, though mostly minor, seemed to plague the University of Utah Red Rocks gymnastics team in their matchup against the much improved Arizona State Sun Devils, leading to a dramatic road victory for the #3 Red Rocks, while securing their third straight cumulative score of 197.000+. Sophomore Abby Paulson’s 9.850 on the uneven bars was hindered by a slightly off kilter initial handstand, but was otherwise perfect, helping set the tone early, which was needed after freshman Alain Sabado had an awkward fall while attempting to transition from the lower bar to the higher bar, resulting in a 9.200. Subpar dismounts became the trend as the first rotation wore on with a trio of 9.825s from seniors Alexia Burch and Maile O’Keefe and sophomore Emilie LeBlanc before junior anchor Cristal Isa came through with a solid 9.900.
SALT LAKE CITY In a game that lacked a real rhythm between two teams, Utah held on in the second half to claim a 75-67 win over the visiting Utah Valley Wolverines in an empty Huntsman Center on Tuesday.
Utah Valley (2-4) opened up the game looking to establish early dominance and shot at a high clip while the Wolverines outrebounded Utah to take a 5-point lead, their largest lead of the game. But after some back-and-forth, Utah (3-1, 1-0) reeled off a 10-0 run at the 8-minute mark in the first half to pull away from the Wolverines, and the rest was history.
Utes beat UVU in hoops

It wasn’t pretty but the Utes got the win over UVU on Tuesday night at the Huntsman Center. The Utes were led by Timmy Allen’s 19 points and six boards, while Branden Carlson had 14 points, and Alphonso Plummer and Rylan Jones also had 12 points in the 75-67 win.
For stretches of the game it looked like Utah was going to run away and hide from UVU. Utah’s offense was moving the ball well, and while UVU was hitting shots, they were getting enough stops to build a solid double digit lead over the Wolverines. Fortunately for the Utes, they forced UVU into 20 turnovers, which they scored 26 points off of, while only giving up eight of their own.
