Paralyzed former North Dakota athlete spreads story of hope

MINOT, N.D. Hunter Pinke was a former University of North Dakota tight end who began his sporting career doing everything in his power to follow in the Division I footsteps of his grandfather. A skiing accident a couple of years ago set him on a new course, though, one he would not give up even if given the chance.
As he was growing up, Pinke, a native of Wishek, North Dakota, wanted nothing more than to be just like his grandfather, Fred Lukens. Lukens played basketball for the Fighting Hawks from 1972 to 1977, the Grand Forks Herald s Ann Bailey reported,

Bryand Rincher - Wilma Rudolph Award Winner TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Bryand Rincher, who helped lead the Florida State Men’s Track and Field Team to the 2021 ACC Outdoor Championship, has been selected as one of six recipients of the 2021 Wilma Rudolph Student-Athlete Achievement Award, by the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals. The award honors student-athletes who have overcome great personal, academic and/or emotional odds to achieve academic success while participating in athletics. Rincher will accompany the Seminoles to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet in Eugene, Oregon (June 9-12) as an alternate member of the Seminoles’ 4X100 meter relay team. Just after the conclusion of his freshman year in July 2019, Rincher was involved in a grease fire that left much of his body with severe burns and forced him to spend several months in a hospital. Red River High School seniors had a sendoff event to remember, thanks to support from the school’s Class of 2001.
Earlier this year, when members of the Class of 01 decided not to hold a 20-year reunion because of the pandemic, they opted instead to raise funds for the school’s Class of 21 senior picnic.
