Betty Kovy-Weiss, now 17, was flung into internet fame after her mother, Dara-Lynn Weiss, wrote a feature for US Vogue about putting her then 8-year-old daughter on a restrictive diet the previous year, she told the Telegraph in a new interview. The article sparked immediate and fierce backlash from other parents who called her a narcissist and accused her of embarrassing her child by taking food from her in public.

This being ‘the city’, she just ignored him. ‘You fat bitch,’ he spat. This would be upsetting for anyone, but for Betty, now 17, it’s nothing new. ‘I’ve had people commenting on my weight for half my life,’ she says today. ‘I’ve often been bullied.’ In April 2012, aged just eight, Betty found herself at the centre of an international storm, after an American Vogue article written by her mother Dara-Lynn Weiss, went viral.
