(Photo by Joe Belak) Heading into last week’s play, Woodmore baseball was tied for first place with Lake at 4-1 in the Northern Buckeye Conference. The Wildcats’ prospects were looking good. Then came a 3-2 loss to NBC preseason favorite Otsego, and suddenly the ‘Cats were not on top anymore. But they will stay in the hunt if Woodmore coach Jacob Huss has anything to say about it. On Wednesday at Eastwood, the Eagles scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth and Ethan Rapp tossed a one-hitter as the Wildcats fell, 11-1, in a five-inning mercy ruled game. Rapp needed just 72 pitches, 38 of them strikes. 

Growing Cougar baseball program takes the field

Here’s a look at the area baseball teams. Hamilton will not field a team this season. Central Noble Coach: Tyler Graybeal The Central Noble baseball program is growing. There are 32 players in the program this year, which allowed them to put together a C team. On the varsity, Dylan Eggl, Will Hoover, Jackson Hoover, Cade Weber and Noah Christopher are all returning with varsity experience. The newcomers are Tyler Shisler, Jaxon Copas, Justin Krider, Aidan Dreibelbis, Caleb Weaver, Aidan Harman, Nick Godsey, Chase Spencer and Sawyer Yoder. The strength of the Cougars will be their depth. With more players in the program, they will be able to utilize a lot of different athletes.

(Press photo by Lee Welch/www.FamilyPhotoGroup.com) In Eastwood’s 5-4 non-league win over Maumee, junior catcher Andrew Arnston belted a two-run homer to the deepest part of the Panthers’ field in the third inning. That proved to be the difference in Eastwood’s third win of the season, coming after the Eagles swept a doubleheader over Tiffin Calvert.  Now the Eagles are 10-0 and Arnston is hitting .538 with three home runs, four doubles, 21 RBIs and 16 runs. In the win over future Northern Buckeye Conference foe Maumee, Arnston reached base three times, including on an infield single and an error, scoring twice.
