St Helena City Council agrees to wind down Hunt Avenue Hub — for now

The St. Helena City Council agreed Tuesday to wind down the Hunt Avenue Hub, a downtown pop-up park created through a temporary street closure, but itâs going to keep looking for creative ways to create outdoor gathering spaces. The city will close the Hub in 30 days or when Napa Countyâs COVID-19 rates move it from the Purple Tier into the less restrictive Red Tier, whichever comes sooner. The Hub was introduced on Oct. 30 on Hunt Avenue between Main Street and Railroad Avenue. People were drawn to it during a time when restaurants were barred from serving customers indoors and sometimes even outdoors. Public use dropped with the onset of cold weather.

St Helena City Council to re-evaluate Hunt Avenue Hub

Downtown St. Helenaâs Hunt Avenue Hub became an oasis of community togetherness during the last three months of a pandemic that barred restaurants from serving customers indoors and sometimes even outdoors. Now, amidst winter weather and with the Regional Stay at Home Order replaced by the somewhat less restrictive Purple Tier, what will become of the Hub? Thatâs the question the City Council will ponder at their next regular meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 9. The council approved the Hub as a temporary measure last September. After some fire-related delays, the city closed off the segment of Hunt Avenue between Main Street and Railroad Avenue and opened the park on Oct. 30.
