A group of inmates sparked a fire at the Kenora District Jail and attacked correctional officers attempting to extinguish and evacuate people from the area last week.
On Jan. 18, inmates started a small fire in one unit at the jail and flooded the block with shanks made from a broom handle. No one was hurt in the fire according to the solicitor general’s office.

A spokesperson for the solicitor general said correctional officers quickly extinguished the fire and the inmates were secured in the yard for a short time while the smoke cleared. Kenora OPP attended the call to assist with security.
