NAU Stuns Portland State, Wins First Big Sky Tournament Game Since 2015
The NAU men’s basketball team won its first Big Sky Tournament game in six years as the tenth-seeded Lumberjacks upset seventh-seeded Portland State, 77-66, in the first round in Boise, Idaho. Luke Avdalovic had a career day, leading NAU with 26 points, including hitting seven three-pointers. NAU shot an incredible 75-percent from three point range, hitting 12-of-16 three pointers. Keith Haymon added 13 points and Ajang Aguek had 11 points in the win. NAU did lose forward Nik Maines in the first half with an ankle injury after he scored eight points and was perfect from the floor. NAU advances to Thursday’s quarterfinals against second-seeded Eastern Washington. The two teams didn’t play this year, due to COVID protocol measures.
