As of Sunday, Manitoba had the highest rate of COVID-19 infections per capita in Canada, surpassing Alberta, with 232 cases per 100,000 people in the past seven days.
The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 12.7 per cent provincially and 14.3 per cent in Winnipeg. As of 9:30am on May 17, 2021, 430 new cases of the virus have been identified. The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 45,579.

Winnipeg continues to see the highest number of new cases in the province.
A male in his 60s from the Southern Health–Santé Sud region is the latest COVID-19 death, bringing the total to 1,011 deaths.

Today’s COVID-19 data shows:
• 18 cases in the Interlake–Eastern health region;
• 37 cases in the Northern health region;
• 18 cases in the Prairie Mountain health region;
• 44 cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region; and

PHOENIX â Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is participating in a national Empty the Shelters event as they experience crowded kennels.
From May 5 to May 9, Bissell Pet Foundation is sponsoring adoption fees for pets at shelters and rescues in 36 states across the country.
Adoptions sponsored through the event include licensing fees, spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, and vaccinations.
MCACC says they have more than 300 dogs and cats at their locations, making for a very full shelter.
Puppies and kittens younger than five months, Shelter Super Heroes, and Fast Pass reservations are not included in the promotion, MCACC says.
