Seek and Destroy: SF Education Board Demands Woke Destruction of Prestigious Magnet School

Share Source: AP Photo/Marcio Jose Sanchez Last time we checked in on the San Francisco school board, they were busying themselves with rebranding buildings named after such problematic figures as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Paul Revere, and even Dianne Feinstein. None of the schools in question are open for learning, of course, but educating children in any sort of healthy or fruitful way is largely beside the point these days. The destructive adults in charge have now set their sights on dismantling one of the most prestigious and revered high schools under their jurisdiction. Their justification for seeking to take a wrecking ball to a bastion of established success? Diversity concerns, naturally. The San Francisco Chronicle reports:

SF to Dump Merit-based Admissions to Majority Asian Magnet School Because Systemic Racism

3 Feb 2021 San Francisco’s school board may drop merit-based admissions to Lowell High School because of concerns that the tests reinforce “systemic racism” at the majority-Asian institution. The  San Francisco Chroniclereported Sunday that Lowell, “San Francisco’s elite academic public high school,” will “no longer admit students based on top grades and test scores, and instead use a random lottery system for admission” if a new resolution, introduced Tuesday, passes. Local ABC news affiliate KGO reported: Lowell High School is the oldest public high school west of the Mississippi. It’s quite often referred to as one of the nation’s academic gems.

What Nathan Glazer Can Teach Joe Biden - Matthew Continetti, Commentary Magazine

What Nathan Glazer Can Teach Joe Biden Can the new president remember the answers? One day in the autumn of 1967, the Berkeley sociologist Nathan Glazer visited Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. He was there to debate the community activist Saul Alinsky. The subject was the New Left. Glazer was a well-known critic of the radical politics then making its way through American social, cultural, and educational institutions. But he was no stranger to radicalism itself. A 1944 graduate of the City College of New York, Glazer belonged to the coterie that had lunched in the campus dining hall’s Alcove No. 1, where non-Stalinist Marxists and other members of the left opposition argued over history, reform, class, and war. Many members of this circle, which included Daniel Bell, Irving Kristol, Seymour Martin Lipset, Seymour Melman, and Philip Selznick, went on to perform distinguished work in the social sciences.
