The Fijian government has grilled a senior US diplomat over why Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama did not get an invitation to President Joe Biden s climate summit later this month.
Local media reports the acting head of the US Embassy in Suva, Tony Greubel, was called in for a meeting with former foreign minister, now Fiji s special envoy to the Pacific Islands Forum, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola this week.
He reportedly conveyed Mr Bainimarama s disappointment at not being invited to the summit and asked Mr Greubel to pass the message on to Washington.
Ratu Inoke also asked why the President of the Marshall Islands David Kabua had been invited when Mr Bainimarama had not.
