WESTPORT When more activities began opening up last summer, the school district’s extended day program was the first to offer a summer camp.
Fast forward a year later and this once little-known program has 60 children signed up for its daily summer program, a summer waiting list and youngsters signing up for the fall before and after school care sessions.
“It has taken off,” said program director Jennifer Chaves. “It’s been a really exciting thing for the community.”
Chaves said that the program has been in existence for several years but has grown in popularity the last few years. She said it is one of the few communities in the state to offer child care before and after school, as well as a summer program.
