The number of active COVID-19 cases in Westchester continues to drop, an encouraging sign, according to County Executive George Latimer, though the total number of fatalities has topped 2,000 for the entire near year-long pandemic.
The Westchester Department of Health was reporting 527 new COVID-19 cases out of 14,518 tests administered throughout the county on Wednesday, Feb. 10, as the number of newly reported infections continues dwindling.
There are now 7,567 active COVID-19 cases in Westchester, down from 9,343 last week and nearly 12,000 two weeks ago.
Latimer touted the county s 4.6 percent positive infection rate on Wednesday after seeing it peak over 10 percent following spikes after Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year s.

There were 12 new COVID-19 fatalities reported in Westchester as the death toll approaches 2,000 county residents.
The Westchester Department of Health was reporting 553 new COVID-19 cases out of 8,890 tests administered throughout the county on Tuesday, Feb. 9, as the number of newly reported infections continues dwindling.
As of Wednesday, Feb. 10, the county was monitoring 7,787 active COVID-19 cases, down from 8,764 late last week
There have now been 99,309 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Westchester since the pandemic began last year out of more than 1.87 million tested. The 5.3 percent positive infection rate is among the lowest in the Hudson Valley.
The new COVID-19 deaths that were reported in Westchester brought the total to 2,163 - 1,996 county residents - since last March.

There were 202,661 COVID-19 tests administered in New York on Jan. 26, according to Cuomo, resulting in 8,771 positive cases for a 5.44 percent positive infection rate, down from more than six percent the previous day.
Currently, there are 8,771 COVID-19 patients hospitalized across the state, while more than 1,588 are in ICU, and 1,027 are intubated with the virus. There were 162 new COVID-19-related deaths reported in the past 24 hours.
Statewide, a total of 1,361,082 positive COVID-19 cases have been confirmed out of 31.12 million tests that have been administered. There have been a total of 34,579 virus-related deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Westchester Department of Health is now monitoring nearly 8,500 active COVID-19 cases as the virus continues spreading throughout the county.
As of Thursday, Dec. 10, there are 8,408 (250 new) active COVID-19 cases in Westchester, County Executive George Latimer said during his latest COVID-19 briefing. That number is up from 7,830 on Monday, Dec. 7.
Latimer noted that a week ago there were 6,455 active cases two weeks ago, 5,024 three weeks ago, 3,975 after Veteran s Day, and just 2,500 the day after the presidential election last month.
The County Executive cautioned that with Hannakuh beginning on Thursday and more holidays coming in the next few weeks, that residents should exercise caution when celebrating.
