Every month, a group of schools select a staff member as Educator of the Month. The Rotary Club of Alderwood Terrace then holds an awards ceremony to honor the awardees. The following school staff were honored in April:

“They have worked so hard this year, Westgate Principal Mary Freitas says. “They’ve taught our youngest students first remotely and then back in person. They deserve recognition for teaching students that have never been to school how to read on Zoom. Lastly, the kindergarten program at Westgate is being moved next year so the teachers are anticipating a move and planning that.”

Toting backpacks and sporting face masks, more students were welcomed back into school buildings Monday as third- through sixth-graders returned to in-person learning under the Edmonds School District’s school re-entry plan.
Aiming to meet Gov. Jay Inslee’s emergency proclamation issued last month to offer in-person learning to all students by April 19, the district welcomed back third- through sixth-graders Monday, April 12. According to the order, school districts across the state must offer a minimum of 30% of students two in-person learning days. K-2 students returned on March 22 and grade 7-12 students will return April 19.

A West Palm Beach school community is coming together to support a family that s gone through an unimaginable and tragic couple of months.
Despite the obstacles the Ramos-Ramirez family now faces, their children s school is rallying around them. You don t know how hard it is. You don t believe it until it happens in the family, said mother Zoila Ramirez.
Speaking to WPTV through a translator on Monday, Ramirez talked about going through the most difficult time in her life. I have bills to pay. Rent, food, and it s not easy with my five boys, Ramirez said.
