– University of North Dakota head football coach Bubba Schweigert was named as a Stats Perform FCS Eddie Robinson Award finalist on Monday, an award presented annually to the top coach in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
Schweigert, a two-time AFCA Coach of the Region for Region 5 at both the Division I (2016) and Division II (2005) levels, has secured his second finalist nomination for the award after leading the Fighting Hawks to new heights in the 2020-21 season.
The Zeeland, N.D., native helped UND to its second conference championship at the Division I level this past year, becoming the first team in Missouri Valley Football Conference history to capture the league crown in its first year in the conference since the league’s inception in 1985.

Kyle Walters doesn t expect to be a major player in CFL free agency.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers GM s focus this off-season has been re-signing key members of the franchise s 2019 Grey Cup-winning team.
After getting key pieces like running back Andrew Harris, offensive linemen Stanley Bryant, Jermarcus Hardrick and Canadian Geoff Gray and defensive lineman Jackson Jeffcoat under contract before they hit free agency, Walters doesn t have room left in his budget to make a huge splash when free agency opens at noon ET on Tuesday.
Cody Fajardo signing on with the Saskatchewan Roughriders for another season is a perfect fit.
Fajardo just fits in. He’s a hard-working, appreciative leader who has done it the hard way. He was a practice-roster guy and a third-string, short-yardage specialist until finally getting his shot albeit because of injury to try and prove he can lead a CFL team on his own.
And lead he did.
His personality allowed fans to get to know him quickly and I haven’t seen a guy jump to fan favourite that quickly since Weston Dressler did it in 2008. Of course, winning helps.
